Mary’s House is named in honor of Mother Mary Powell, First Lady Yevette’s Carmichael’s dearly departed mother and Pastor Carmichael’s mother-in-love. It is indeed a labor of love in memory of Mother Mary’s efforts to create a safe space for her children.
Built on the church grounds, Mary’s House is currently under renovation. It will be a single-family home in residential Windsor and will be a safe, beautifully equipped, transitional residence for women and children; families that need a brief helping hand. Families are expected to stay approximately one year at no cost and will have access to a number of benefits – all are invited to attend weekly church services and to participate in regular counseling appointments with Pastor Carmichael. All Mary’s House grantees will be embraced and supported by our Live Well Church family. Adults are expected to work and to use their stay at Mary’s House to strengthen their finances and help them to move forward in life with dignity.
This project is near and dear to Pastor Carmichael’s heart. Pastor’s very own beloved mother and mother-in-love were once in need of a Mary’s House. A safe and clean home, a welcoming place to shelter their young families – a place of respite, free of judgement. There is no desperation more urgent than that of a parent seeking shelter for their children, or that of a youth that does not have a safe and stable home life. Housing insecurity has far-reaching effects in parents and children, manifesting in shame, anger and helplessness. Many of us, at one time or another, will need a helping hand and Pastor Carmichael and Live Well Church are praying and believing that Mary’s House will be a reality! We hope that you will take part in this labor of love by making a financial donation or a contribution of materials or time.
As Pastor Carmichael’s vision comes to fruition, the completion of Mary’s House will be instrumental in strengthening the community – keeping families together through difficult circumstances by providing housing, resources, and a supportive environment where families can regain their footing without stigma or shame. Through Mary’s House funding and contributions, recipients will not only have a safe place to stay but they will each have room to dream, to heal, to grow, to improve, to live well and to love much. All contributions earmarked for Mary’s house will be used to support those in need.
